Everything You Need For The Quintessential British Day Trip

Everything You Need For The Quintessential British Day Trip

While a relaxing stay at a holiday home or hotel in another country is always welcome, there is no denying that the UK has a lot going for it as a tourist destination these days.

Many people seem to have embraced that idea in recent years too. The staycation trend has really found its feet, as more and more friends, families and couples choose to holiday on these shores.

Still going strong

This type of behaviour is expected to continue throughout this year as well. Last September, Travel Weekly reported on research by Hoseasons, which found that 83 per cent of people who had a staycation in 2021 intended to do the same this year. It added that 24 per cent were already preparing for their next break, while 28 per cent also said they preferred staycations to going abroad.

But, if you are planning a staycation for the first time or simply want some ideas for a day trip, what should you be looking for in the UK? There are lots of potential activities to add to your itinerary, so here are just a few ideas to consider as you plan that quintessential British day trip.

Seaside rendezvous

The old song says that we do like to be beside the seaside and, to be fair, there is nothing quite like it. There are plenty of old-school seaside resorts to choose from in the UK, with one of the best-known undoubtedly being Blackpool.

The Visit Blackpool site puts a spotlight on some of the locations that you could enjoy in the area, including the iconic Blackpool Tower and the Pleasure Beach. The famous Blackpool Illuminations are also worth checking out and are expected to be in place between September 2022 and January 2023.

Fun and games

You could also work some gaming fun into your trip. If you do find yourself close to the seaside, why not explore the amusements and arcades on offer? Alternatively, a spot of bowling or even a round of crazy golf is always a lot of fun.

However, if you are seeking some glamour, there is always the option of visiting a casino. Many of the games associated with such sites have had a new lease of life in recent years, thanks to online casino gaming.

A number of classic casino games are now thriving on the web and the best online slots are often based on a range of themes. In addition, some of the most famous names actually started life as land-based slots in casinos and arcades. For instance, well-known games such as Cleopatra, Rainbow Riches and Zeus are good examples of this trend. With that in mind, you could perhaps look out for them as you play both online and offline.

City of culture

You could also enjoy some history, art or culture at a few famous locations during your staycation. This might be a particularly good idea if you have opted for a city break, rather than a classic seaside stay.

For instance, if you fancy a trip to London, there are a whole host of cultural hotspots that you can take in. TimeOut lists the top ten museums to visit in the city, with key stops including the V&A, the Natural History Museum and the Design Museum. The latter focuses on contemporary design and architecture.

So much to see and do

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to the British day trip, as there is simply so much that you can explore and do. However, hopefully, the ideas above have given you something to think about as you plan your next trip out or staycation with your loved ones.
