3 heartfelt ways to say thank-you to someone special
If you’re fortunate enough to have a person in your life to whom you owe a debt of gratitude, then you might want to pull out the stops with an accordingly special thank-you. By going just that little bit beyond the call of duty, you’ll demonstrate just how much you appreciate what they do for you.
Not only that, but gratitude has been proven to reduce aggression and increase empathy, making it a holistic way of improving your mental resilience.
Whether it’s a spouse or significant other, a relative, a friend, a teacher, or a co-worker who goes out of their way to make your life that little bit better, it’s worth saying a special thank-you, even if it’s only now and then.
A letter or a thank-you card
In an age of digital communication, nothing quite gets through like a hand-written letter – especially if you’ve got something in particular that you’d like to say. You can draft out a version or two in rough, or on your computer, and then write it up by hand at the end. You might write your message on the inside of a quality greetings card – after all, there’s room in there for more than a few words.
Gifts
If the person you’re buying for has particular taste, then now might be a good time to demonstrate you’re attentive to it. You don’t need to go really extravagant, here – in fact, the most affecting gifts are often put together on a limited budget, using just a little bit of creative and DIY skill.
A gift needn’t be something physical, either. It might be a voucher for a service, or a ticket for a show. If they’ve expressed an interest in learning a particular skill, or a regret at never having found the time to do so, then you might buy them a subscription to an online course. If you want something to do together, then evening classes in dance, woodworking, pottery, or any other hobby you can think of, might be appropriate.
Gestures
Presents are all well and good, but if you really want to get the message across, actions can often speak louder than work. This might mean ordering a choir to turn up at their workplace or commissioning a painting of them. But big showy one-off gestures like that can often backfire. If you’re trying to show appreciation for someone you live with, then you might return the favour by pitching in that little more with domestic chores, and by running errands on their behalf. Your efforts are sure to be noticed!
These are just a few ways that can really show your gratitude to someone you love or are grateful for, no matter which method you choose, the recipient is sure to feel loved and appreciated.
