A Garden Everyone Will Envy
Do you want the garden that the entire street envies? Of course, you do when the weather is as good as it has been. It’s not all about showing off, either, although you’ll do a lot of that. It’s about looking out your window and feeling peace and tranquillity and having somewhere to sit when the weather is nice. The great thing is that it won’t only be in summer. Autumn or winter sunny mornings (wrapped up warm) are bliss.
But you have to get the garden to where it needs to be. Below, we’ll tell you how to get a garden everyone will envy.
Sustainable, Planet-Friendly Gardening
Gardeners are going crazy for sustainability (isn’t everyone?), which is, so far, the biggest trend in 2024 and beyond. The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has led the call to move away from peat-based composts because of their negative environmental impact. Instead, they want gardeners to use alternatives such as homemade composts that are rich in growing matter but don’t harm peatlands.
They also want to incorporate wildlife-friendly elements to help boost biodiversity. Bug hotels (sounds ew) can be made to provide homes for insects, birds, and other animals. The result is supporting the local ecosystem.
Revamping Your Garden for Better Results
Renovations are still a massive trend.
They’re expensive, yes, but worth it. We’d recommend working with a professional company with access to the tools and materials you never would, like excavators, a precast dock leveller, and retaining walls. You can DIY, but it won’t work for big renovations.
Our favourite renovation trends are decking areas, the cottage garden look, vegetable patches and planters, and tiered gardens. Google all of them, and you will find beautiful examples online.
Slow Gardening for Wellbeing
The mental health benefits of spending time outdoors are great. And, on trend with all the Instagram/influencers telling you to lead a more mindful life, is the trend of slow life zones in the garden. They’re there for mindfulness activities like meditation, yoga, or reading. It could be a little section with a padded egg chair you never want to leave, cute lighting, and a fire pit (electric, if you need) to keep you warm.
The aim is always to create somewhere that encourages relaxation and a deep connection with nature.
Water-Wise Gardening
Water-consciousness is another trend – most of the trends focus on doing better for the environment. The trend says you must plant drought-tolerant plants and adopt measures designed to reduce waste. Experts suggest removing traditional grass lawns in favour of larger flower beds or dry gardens covered with mulch such as gravel, which holds onto moisture.
Smart irrigation systems can be used alongside rainwater harvesting tanks if you really want maximum efficiency. With these systems, plants are given just enough hydration, but not too much.
Also, collecting and storing rainwater works wonders because, even though there might not be any significant amounts falling from the sky all year round, every little bit counts towards maintaining a sustainable water supply within an environmentally friendly space. But that’s being extra environmentally conscious, and we don’t always need to do that with the rain in the UK.
Which trend is your favourite? We’re definitely moving towards a time when people focus on sustainability, and you can transform that into a great garden. And there’s still enough time to enjoy the summer!
