Chills and Thrills at Milsoms Alpine 121

Chills and Thrills at Milsoms Alpine 121

By Rachel Ducker

Milsoms bring the Alps to Suffolk in a fully immersive pop up restaurant.

Forget about jetting away and hitting the cold slopes, dine on an Alpine themed menu surrounded by roaring outdoor fire pits, faux-fur lined sofas and retro ski memorabilia.

From schnitzels to classic servings of warming Swiss cheese fondue, and beer in traditional Steins with ski-themed cocktails, I can promise you won’t be disappointed – you will feel like you’re right there on the slopes.

Whether you are looking to have a romantic evening with your partner, fun with friends or (like me) a night out with the girls, this wintery setting is the perfect backdrop to make winter in Suffolk a little more exciting.

The pop up restaurant is running from Wednesday 11th January whilst Milsoms Kesgrave Hall restaurant is closed and undergoing refurbishment.

Here’s what we thought:

Greeted by Milsom staff in skiwear, we passed outdoor fires as we entered a snow covered backdrop into The Hanger.

We took our seats and whilst admiring “stars”, we selected one of the special ski cocktails each.

As we browed the menu a surprise guest made his way over to our table.

Performing some close up magic was award-winning magician Michael J Fitch. From nifty card tricks to unexplainable gadget magic (and a little banter thrown in), he raised the energy of the evening and certainly gave us girls a little giggle. It was so good two of my friends were up half the night trying to work out how he did it!

The food was nothing short of Milsoms usual standard… delicious! It was so nice to try food you wouldn’t normally see on menus in Suffolk. Starters included wild mushroom rosti with poached hens egg, baked camembert and steak tartare, whilst mains featured garlic tiger prawn with chorizo and bean cassoulet, pork schnitzel and pumpkin and sage ravioli.

If that wasn’t enough, we also indulged in the chocolate fondue to share on the table, in my opinion the perfect end to our girls meal out.

Once we had taken our last dunk, we were having such a wonderful evening we propped ourselves on one of sheep skin lined sofas and enjoyed music from Fox & Braces ice-cool DJ set.

On the way out we had fun taking selfies on the Alpine snow set – remembering that friendship never melts away.
