Cool and Refreshing: Coffee Drinks to Make at Home This Summer

During summer, coffee and tea are usually left behind to give space to refreshing beverages or ice creams. Fortunately, we have to thank the person who invented the good old iced coffee for the treat of drinking coffee as a summer drink.

We created this post to pass on the wisdom of fresh coffee drinks and keep you from retiring your coffee machine this season. Let’s experiment and keep our love for coffee!

Classic Iced Coffee

A timeless favourite, iced coffee is simple to make and incredibly satisfying. Brew a strong pot of coffee and let it cool to room temperature. Pour the coffee over a glass filled with ice cubes, add a splash of milk or a plant-based alternative, and sweeten to taste with sugar or syrup. Add a few drops of vanilla extract or a pinch of cinnamon for an extra touch.

For a fun twist on iced coffee, make coffee ice cubes. Brew a pot of strong coffee and let it cool. Pour the coffee into an ice cube tray and freeze. Use the coffee ice cubes instead of regular ice in your iced coffee. As the cubes melt, they won’t dilute your drink but will add more coffee flavour.

Cold Brew Coffee

Cold brew coffee is known for its smooth, less acidic taste than regular iced coffee. To make it, coarsely grind your favourite coffee beans and combine them with cold water in a large jar or pitcher at a ratio of 1:4 (one part coffee to four parts water). Let it steep in the refrigerator for 12 to 24 hours. Later, strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or coffee filter and serve the cold brew over ice with your choice of milk and sweetener.

Coffee Lemonade

Coffee lemonade is a refreshing and unexpected combination. Brew a strong cup of coffee and let it cool. Mix equal parts of the cooled coffee and lemonade in an ice-filled glass. Add a slice of lemon for garnish. The citrusy tang of the lemonade complements the rich coffee flavour, creating a unique and invigorating drink.

Iced Mocha

For chocolate lovers, an iced mocha is the perfect summer indulgence. In a glass, mix a tablespoon of cocoa powder and a tablespoon of sugar with a splash of hot water to dissolve. Fill the glass with ice and pour in chilled coffee. Stir well, then add milk or cream to your liking. Top with whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate syrup for a decadent treat.

Affogato

Affogato is a classic Italian dessert that combines coffee and ice cream. Simply scoop a generous portion of vanilla ice cream into a glass or bowl and pour a shot of hot espresso over the top. The hot coffee melts the ice cream slightly, creating a creamy, sweet, and bitter combination perfect for a summer evening.

Coffee Smoothie

A coffee smoothie is a great way to start your day with energy. Blend a cup of cold brew coffee, a frozen banana, a tablespoon of peanut butter, and a splash of almond milk until smooth. Add a scoop of your favourite protein powder for an extra protein boost. This smoothie is not only refreshing but also nutritious and satisfying.
