Easy Ways to Make a Colour Blocked Outfit

As we approach the spring/summer months of the year, you will already want to check out the latest fashion trends and how they could play a part in your wardrobe over the coming 12 months. Without a doubt, colour blocking is one of those trends that is going to arrive in a big way. So, if you want to create the perfect colour-blocked outfit, here are a few of the top ways of doing so.

Use Complimentary Colours

First of all, you need to think about the way that the blocks of colour are going to interact with one another – ideally creating a situation in which the two are working side-by-side. So, you should think about how your stylish tops and complimentary bottoms are going to look when paired with one another. Ultimately, it will be worth having a colour wheel to look at as this will help you determine the ones that will make up your outfit.

Choose Analogous Colours

If you are not too sure about where to start when it comes to colour blocking, it is certainly going to be worth checking out your analogous colours and working out how to pair them with one another. Essentially, this works by choosing colours that are right next to each other on the spectrum – for example, red and purple or blue and green. While it may not create a bold look if this is what you want to create, there is no doubt that it can be a great introduction to colour blocking if you’re still trying to figure out this look and how you want it to look on you.

Try Pairing Muted Colours

If neither of the two options appears to be working for you particularly well, it is going to be worth experimenting with those muted colours. For example, you can look at added grey with tinted white. This is going to create the type of ‘softer’ look that you may prefer rather than one that is big, bold, and in-your-face.

Add in a Neutral Colour into the Mix

It could be the case that too many bright and bold colours are not for you. In this situation, it will be worth adding a neutral item into the mix that can have the type of softening impact you are looking for. If you have decided that you are going to go for cooler colours in the palette, you could try another colour such as black, white, or grey. However, if you have a warmer outfit, there are a few other options such as cream, camel, or perhaps even navy.

By taking into account one or more of these tips and tricks, you can create the type of colour blocking that allows for a variety of outfit choices. Ultimately, it is a good idea to start off small, and you can gradually start to build up your colour blocking skills until you are fully confident and happy in your outfits this spring and summer 2022.
