Ideas for the perfect girls’ night in

Has it been too long since you got the girls together? While many of us lead increasingly busy lives and drift apart as we get older, it’s still important to make time for our friends when we can. The NHS ranks connecting with other people as the first step to mental wellbeing – and advises that it’s important for building a sense of belonging and self-worth.

Picking a date that works for everyone is often the trickiest part. Ideally, you’ll find a date that people can make without having to leave early due to commitments the next day. Even if you like to be spontaneous, planning ahead is the best way to avoid double bookings and disappointment. Plus, you’ll have something to look forward to!

So once you’ve got a date in the diary, what’s on the agenda? Here are four fun ideas for your next girls’ night in.

An evening of pampering

Who doesn’t love a spa treatment? While travelling to a spa might be difficult to coordinate, it’s not too difficult to recreate that sense of relaxation at home.

You could encourage everyone to bring their favourite treatments or go all in on a new product range together. If you really want to go all out, you could even hire a massage therapist!

Whatever your preference, set the ambience with some soothing music and provide appropriate light refreshments, like reviving juices.

A pyjama party

Sleepovers aren’t just for kids! We all like getting into our pyjamas and feeling cosy on winter nights. You could treat yourself to a new set of pyjamas or invest in a suggly ladies dressing gown specially for the occasion.

Once everyone is comfortable, tuck into indulgent hot chocolates or get into the spirit with homemade cocktails. Later, you could line up a classic film – or take turns at karaoke, depending on the crowd!

A games night

Games nights can be as wild or as civilised as you want them to be, making them a flexible choice for all kinds of friendship groups.

Options range from classic titles like monopoly – sales of which boomed during lockdown – to high-stakes card and drinking games. Alternatively, keep it simple with charades or forehead detective, where you try to guess a celebrity name that’s stuck to your body by asking yes or no questions.

Or if there are any gamers in your group, how about a Mario Kart tournament?

A dinner party

Whether you want to show off your cooking skills or order in, dinner parties are a perfect opportunity to sit down around a table and enjoy quality conversations.

You could each contribute a specific course or a round of drinks to take the pressure off the host. Adding a theme allows people to dress up, as well as guiding your music choice. It could even become a regular thing where you all take turns, ‘Come Dine with Me’ style!
