Off the Beaten Path: Exploring the Hidden Gems of St. Barts
- St Barts Villas
There are so many hidden gems on the island of St. Barts. In such a special place as this you will find plenty of things to do that aren’t crowded with hundreds of other tourists. One of the most special hidden gems here is perhaps a bit more well known than the following list of activities. The stunning St Barts villas are private luxury homes spread around the island. They book up fast ahead of time so it’s good to look into well before you go. But once you get one it’s heaven on earth. Your own private pool, amazing amenities the whole family will love, a gourmet kitchen, a cinema room and the list goes on. Depending on which villa you choose.
- Anse du Colombier
There are many beaches that the tour groups will take you too. The popular ones with over priced drinks and an entrance fee. But this beach is different. Here you can have a small hike with stunning views and the pristine waters of this beach are breathtaking. From the top of the hill is a leisurely walk down but then a climb back up. This is a bit more challenging but the view you get from the top is amazing. Or you can drive up until the end of the Road and park the car then climb down to the beach. The only difficulty is the walk back up, but it’s a short hike. The easiest but not as much fun is you can drive to la Petite Anse and there you can walk along the side of the hill, this option has no ups and downs, then you would get there easily and smoothly. Near the edge of the bay close to the rocks is a great spot for snorkelling. Don’t forget your mask and fins. This is a very secluded and natural beach so make sure you bring your own water and food if you plan to stay a few hours.
- Laurent Beach
This beach has the most charm of them all. Every nook and cranny is full of something natural and interesting, beautiful coral, coloured rocks, strange sea plants, and washed up jellies or plants make a walk about a mini scavenger hunt. Located in the quaint neighbourhood of Laurent, it is a long and narrow stretch of beach, quiet and with shallow water great for the kids to play in.
- Shell Beach
This is a much-protected bay enclosed by steep rocks. It is a great spot where you can also have lunch in the popular restaurant, or have a sun set filled digestive and watch the orange glow disappear beyond the surrounding hills. Perfectly situated on the side of Fort Karl make this a must-see during sunset. The popular restaurant on site is ‘Do Brasil’, a very trendy one on the island.
- Anse de Grand Cul-de-Sac
The large bay is quite extensive and naturally well-protected. It makes for a great spot for kitesurfing, paddle boarding, kayaking and windsurfing, and of course snorkelling.
- Petite Cul-de-Sac
A heavenly secluded little bay for those who want to bring their media entourage and seek privacy. The water is calm and easy to swim in. The best part of this place is that it is a secret spot. It feels remote and not that many people know about it. You won’t be disappointed when you come across a gorgeous natural pool with crystal clear water and spectacular views. Just a short thirty minute hike along the coast is well worth it when you arrive at this natural paradise. Since you’re alone it’s perfect for swimming natural and cooling off after that hike. The pools are hidden behind the rocks which adds for extra privacy while relaxing in the buff.
