The Corner London City Hotel Review

The Corner London City Hotel Review

By Rachel Ducker

If you are looking for a hotel that’s central to a few London hot spots, the Corner London City Hotel is not only in a great location, but also boasts sustainable and eco-friendly solutions, meaning you can stay in London whilst doing your bit for the environment. For my friend and I this made the ideal urban nest for our girls getaway.

Location

Situated in East London, just a few minutes from Aldgate East tube, you have close connection for exploring the city, it’s just a stroll away from Brick Lane and a 15-20 minute walk from Liverpool Street or to Shoreditch.

It’s surrounded by some of the best street food stalls, art galleries, boutiques, creative businesses and nightlife, so has something to offer every type of explorer.

The greenest hotel in London

This eco hotel has sustainability art the heart, how? With 41% less water consumption than other UK hotels and It also creates 67 per cent fewer CO2 emissions than the UK industry average, thanks to sensor LED lighting in the corridors and 40 solar panels on the roof.

There are three room sizes snug, comfy and plush so you can choose a room that fits your budget.

They feature an all-in-one pod which not only saves on materials, it also looks pretty unique too. They encompass a super-king bed topped with Naturalmat mattresses, handmade in Devon with sustainable, biodegradable, organic fibres and an integrated 32″ LCD TV at the end of it. Watching TV in bed never felt so good!

The remaining furniture is made of re-purposed and re-used pieces, with desks of reclaimed wood, lamps made using old hosepipes and specially designed easel wardrobes which all add a rustic but contemporary feel to the interior.

Guests are encouraged to do their bit too and are provided with recycling waste bins, along with Bee-Kind toiletries and a reusable glass bottle of filtered water. Tea and coffee making facilities are available but are housed in the corridor on each floor.

Guests staying multiple nights who volunteer to not have their room cleaned will receive a £5 voucher to spend at the bar as the hotels way of saying thank you for being part of their green effort.

Services and amenities

The self-check in area makes arriving and departing easy, and creates a less formal lobby.

Activities range from the vintage ping pong table to the cluster of gym equipment on the fourth-floor landing. You can charge your electric car in the car park (£20 per 24 hours), or take one of the hotel’s bikes for a spin – every base is covered.

Food and Drink

Although there are plenty of great places to eat in the local area, the hotel’s restaurant has a locally-sourced menu including dishes from around the world such Jamaican-style jerk chicken to Greek pakoras and pizza.

For breakfast expect healthy granola and yogurt with chia and sunflower seeds to sprinkle over your virtuous bowl, or for the more traditionally-minded, plate up hot containers of sausage, bacon and baked beans.
