Wellness at sea: How to stay healthy on a yachting trip

If you’re just about to head on a luxury yachting trip, looking after your well-being might be the least of your concerns. However, whether it’s your first or tenth time at sea, it’s important to prepare your mind and body.

From flexibility to hydration, several areas could fall behind if you embark without a plan. Before you set off, read our concise guide to staying healthy at sea.

Three ways to protect your wellness at sea:

1.     Stay hydrated

Just like any other holiday, your yachting trip will likely see you exposed to plenty of sunshine, hot weather, and salty water. Add to that the exertion of swimming, navigating, and exploring new destinations, and you might likely forget to keep on top of your hydration.

When you’re on the yacht, try to drink at least 2 litres of water every day. If you’re in a country with a particularly hot climate, it’s worth drinking even more than that. Being organised is prudent, as you’ll need to stock up on bottled water whenever and wherever possible.

No matter your activities, you’ll lose more fluids than you might expect on the yacht. Drinking plenty of water is one of the most straightforward ways to keep feeling fresh.

2.     Have a spa day

Some luxury yachts come with pampering facilities, so why not treat yourself?

Take a self-care day and relax, using skincare products or even hiring a private therapist for that much-needed massage you’ve been putting off. Occasionally, you may also be able to hire a private chef when you book a private yacht charter from a luxury provider. Afternoon tea makes the perfect accompaniment to a spa day…

If you’re on the yacht with friends, pampering yourself is a fantastic way to pass the time. Sit back on deck with a face mask, sip some prosecco, and let yourself truly unwind. If you’ve got a portable speaker with you, put on a chilled playlist while you put all your worries behind you.

3.     Try on-deck yoga

Lastly, when you’re on a yacht, you might not be moving your body in the same ways as usual – especially if you lead an active lifestyle. One of the best ways to keep moving and promote blood flow to your muscles is by doing some gentle exercise, like stretching or yoga, at least daily.

Don’t worry if you can’t connect to the internet for your favourite yoga tutorials on YouTube. Check out some of the best yoga books to pick out a few before you set sail.

When you combine gentle activity with the glorious morning sunshine and the sound of lapping waves on deck, it could even enhance the experience of your yachting tour significantly. Nothing compares to the fresh sea breeze you’ll feel on deck. Some yachts come with gym equipment, so you could stick to your workout routine if you prefer. It’s your call!
