An End-of-Summer Bedroom Refresh with Yard – By Rachel Ducker

There’s something about the end of the summer that always feels like a natural “reset time” for the house. As the evenings get a little bit earlier and we’re heading toward Autumn, I like to swap out some of the brighter summer pieces for softer textures, warmer tones and all of the little additions that really do make a home feel even cosier.

For my latest bedroom refresh, I decided to do a complete overhaul of the bed with Yard. I wanted to keep things neutral and natural with minimal fuss, but I did want to add touches of both colour and texture so as to not feel boring. For the space of this refresh, I feel that I achieved a relaxed, lived-in look that I just adore.

The Hebden Stripe Bedding

To start with, I used the Hebden Stripe 100% Cotton Duvet Cover Set in Natural which has been a really lovely and understated stripe that fits in perfectly within a neutral setting without seeming to just disappear into it completely.

The garment-washed 100% cotton gave it that lovely worn, washed effect that only makes a bed look and feel that much softer. Yard states that the fabric gets softer with every wash, which is just about everything that I want from day to day bedding – no overly delicate pieces to be found here.

I went for the King size and layered on a few extra Hebden pillow cases to get that plush, hotel feel on the bed without overwhelming things and appearing as if it’s far too formal.

Layering Up the Pillows

To frame the bed and add additional height, the Hebden Stripe Pillowcase Pairs in Natural I was sent were invaluable.

To keep my existing, understated stripe within the bed linen scheme, I took another two of these fitted covers so as to frame my bed like it was a hotel. They retain that same classic stripe pattern but this time feature a slightly more structured edge in the Oxford-style hem but again managed to create that slightly careless styling still. As previously mentioned the Hebden pillowcases are 100% cotton with a textured washing and drying process behind it.

The Fitted Sheets

I replaced the fitted sheets just as much as the visible bedding.

For my first fitted sheet set, I have chosen the Hebden 100% Cotton Striped Fitted Bed Sheet in Natural. By far the longest lasting cotton sheeting, and this fitting set continues the same muted stripe from the bedding below all through the top fitted sheeting. The 100% cotton with a 144 thread count fabric felt crisp without being too much for the space and also has that gorgeous matte finish on this particular styling scheme.

I then added another set of fitted sheets into the styling mix which the Hebden 100% Cotton Narrow Stripe Fitted Sheet in Natural. Also 100% cotton with a 144 thread count but as the stripe here appears to be in more of a narrow finish it has already introduced a slightly altered effect into the bed sheeting arrangement.

Adding a Touch of Moss Green

I love that addition of green into my previously very natural decor styling for the bedroom for the obvious reason of colour introduction. The specific shade of moss green as a rich contrast against the lighter stripe felt like the right touch for this bedroom scheme. To give things yet a further sense of interest, I also introduced the Bertie Washed Cotton Velvet Cushions in Moss.

These cushions are constructed of washed cotton velvet and feature a cute frayed fringe element, providing a welcome contrast to the cotton sheeting beneath without being overly ostentatious in its presence.

A Simple Seasonal Bedroom Update

One of the key features I enjoy most about this bed scheme is how this refresh only involved swapping the bedding and adding 2 more cushions.

The furniture, wallpaper, and central colour theme in the bedroom still remain but introducing these new pieces has completely changed the atmosphere of the room, giving it an even cosier and more inviting feel that looks both suitable for a changing season and comfortable for guests. The blend of the stripped cotton with the velvet created a welcome textural change that ties together both neutral styling and vibrant colour.

Most of all it does just look like a home that is welcoming to occupants for sleep, rather than purely for photography.
