My family and I were invited to The Ampersand Hotel in South Kensington, London, to celebrate my son’s 4th birthday and as a dinosaur-obsessed little boy, he couldn’t have been more excited. What makes this boutique London hotel magical is that they go the extra mile to create themed experiences for children, including some brilliant dino perks.
The hotel combines Victorian architectural elements with contemporary luxury standards in its historical structure. The space features its playful design and eclectic interior design elements with artistic and scientific references. The Ampersand provides a comfortable modern atmosphere which appeals to couples and business travellers and families above all.
Location
We were pleasantly surprised to discover just how central the hotel is. Tucked away in South Kensington, it’s literally around the corner from the Tube Station and the Natural History Museum a dream come true for dinosaur lovers, and a free attraction to boot. With plenty of other cultural hotspots nearby, the location couldn’t have been more convenient for our trip.
Rooms & Comfort
The hotel provided us with connecting rooms which worked perfectly for our family needs.
The boys were treated to dinosaur-themed sheets, and their welcome tray was a delight – complete with hot chocolate, a dino-shaped biscuit, marshmallows, and even a colouring book and crayons. Those crayons came in very handy during meal times at the hotel!
The children received special treatment through the thoughtful gestures which produced enduring memories for our family.
Afternoon Tea
Our themed afternoon tea experience stood out as the most memorable part of our visit. The hotel offers two versions – Science or Jurassic – and naturally, we opted for Jurassic. Having just visited the Jurassic World Experience at Battersea Power Station that morning, it felt like the perfect continuation of our dinosaur-filled day.
The boys’ faces were an absolute picture when the treats arrived, with dry ice effects adding a touch of theatre. The event included all details which were meticulously planned and our one-year-old Isla participated in the activities.
Dining & Breakfast
The Apero restaurant at the hotel proved to be a major highlight. The basement dining area maintained a peaceful modern atmosphere which created a stress-free dining experience for families with children. The restaurant provided dishes that catered to diverse tastes because it served traditional family-friendly options alongside Mediterranean-style meals for grown-ups.
Breakfast the following morning was just as enjoyable. With plenty of choice from fresh pastries and fruit to a full cooked breakfast, there was more than enough to set us up for another busy day exploring London. The staff members provided us with excellent service through their unobtrusive approach which allowed children to relax while we enjoyed our coffee.
Family-Friendliness
The Ampersand provided us with a welcoming atmosphere that was suitable for families. The staff received children with hospitality because they treated them as honored guests rather than regular visitors. The staff provided top-notch service to create a peaceful atmosphere which parents identify as their primary requirement when staying at the facility.
Verdict
The Ampersand Hotel serves as a fashionable London accommodation which creates enduring family memories. Between the dinosaur-themed surprises, the unforgettable Jurassic Afternoon Tea, and the unbeatable location next to the Natural History Museum, it was the perfect setting for my son’s birthday celebration.
