The Maltings has recently reopened under the Chestnut Group after an extensive renovation. This historic building has been transformed into a welcoming haven, blending modern amenities with timeless charm. The Chestnut Group’s touch is evident throughout, ensuring a comfortable and memorable stay for all guests.

Accommodation

We arrived at The Maltings on a stormy day, instantly welcomed by a cosy and inviting atmosphere. Our family, now a party of five with our new baby, was comfortably accommodated in a spacious family-sized room.

The room was beautifully decorated, featuring plush bedding and thoughtful amenities to ensure a relaxing stay. Even our dog Archie was allowed to join us, as the hotel is completely dog-friendly, making it a perfect choice for pet owners.

All bedrooms at The Maltings are unique, brimming with personality and delightful quirks.

Whether you choose to stay in the Main House, the Stables, or the Cottages, each room category offers a distinct charm. Options range from Snug, Cosy, and Comfy, through to Spacious, or for larger families (and pets), the Super Spacious rooms are ideal. Inspired by the building’s past and its coastal location, these rooms provide a quintessentially English home away from home. Find your favourite and settle into the cosy ambiance.

Food and Drink

Dining at The Grain Store, the hotel’s restaurant, was a highlight of our stay. Located in a separate building, The Grain Store offers a delightful dining experience with menus changing to reflect the seasons. We indulged in the festive menu, which impressed us with its thoughtful touches such as Christmas crackers and activities to keep our two boys entertained. The food was delicious, with a range of seasonal dishes that perfectly captured the festive spirit.

Things to Do

When the weather wasn’t on our side, we found solace in the hotel’s retro games room. Filled with classic games like pinball and solitaire, it became our go-to spot for family fun. We spent hours playing games and sipping on hot chocolate, creating cherished memories despite the stormy weather outside.

Our Verdict

We absolutely loved our stay at The Maltings. It exudes all the charm of the Chestnut Group, with exceptional quality and attention to detail. The team members were outstanding, making our stay truly memorable. A special mention goes to Head Chef Scott, whose culinary expertise shone through in every dish, and Restaurant Manager Victoria, who was a fantastic front-of-house presence.
