arc shopping centre is donating £1,000 to Suffolk Mind for Mental Health Awareness Week

arc shopping centre, in Bury St Edmunds, has teamed up with Suffolk Mind, to raise awareness and get people talking during national Mental Health Awareness Week.

Research has shown that 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem, which is why the team at arc shopping centre feel it is important that the people of Bury St Edmunds know what support is available, and where to turn if they have any concerns regarding mental health.

Mental Health Awareness Week takes place from 10th – 16th May 2021 and this year’s theme is ‘Nature’.  Connecting with nature has become an important tool in supporting mental health for many people during the pandemic.

To show the centre’s support for the community, arc shopping centre has donated £1,000 to Suffolk Mind, who are in the process of creating a children’s story book ‘Sammy the Sea Squirt’ and the £1,000 donation will go towards producing the book.

The book is a fun, psychologically informed storybook, showing children the benefits of exercise on mental health. It’s called Sammy the Sea Squirt, and Suffolk Mind wants to give a copy to every Reception aged child (four-to-five-year-olds) in Suffolk.

arc shopping centres donation of £1,000 will help Suffolk Mind with their mission to get children talking openly about mental health and teaching them from a young age how to look after their mental health, which is extremely important, especially at the moment.

Steve Bunce, Centre Manager of arc shopping centre commented: “We are really pleased to have this opportunity to raise awareness of mental health issues and how they affect everyone, regardless of their age.  We hope that the local story book will increase the community’s understanding of mental health issues and reduce the stigma around mental health.”
