This autumn, Beccles Public Hall and Theatre showcased their performance of the popular West End show, Oliver!
The performance was directed by Youth Theatre Lead, Thom Bailey and saw the marriage of the in-house youth theatre group with a full adult company. The behind-the-scenes team also included Rachel King as Musical Director, Darcie Fisk as Choreographer and Ryan Holt as Producer. On stage, the group were very excited to welcome Alison Dean who joined the adult cast for the first time as Nancy, bringing a wealth of West End experience with her having appeared in Oliver! at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
The show ran 28th October to 6th November 2022.
The Public Hall and performance ran with the support of a host of volunteers who manned the box office, served behind the theatre’s bar, acted as ushers as well as providing support as Chaperons for the youth cast.
Since wrapping up, the show has received rave reviews collected by the Hall in a post-show feedback survey.
“Excellent adult cast, supported by a great youth theatre team. You could see how much hard work and effort had gone into the show.”
“The show was a great community production, both adult and child performers were amazing.”
“Really nice evening, amazing actors, nice atmosphere in the theatre, this was our first visit and definitely hope to return.”
“Very professional. Very well cast. Costumes excellent. I liked the use of the auditorium for parts of the musical. I also enjoyed action taking place on stage during the interval as it felt show was still going on and the audience was part of it. Ordering tickets was very easy online.”
“The show was incredibly entertaining and very professional. It was certainly on par if not better than musicals/performances in Norwich and London. Also, very good value for money.”
“Oliver! was an extremely good show. Every person on stage seemed to be enjoying performing whilst delivering very believable characterisations. Dance routines were exceptional. The youngsters very talented. The adults too whilst being mindful and supportive of the children.”
“The youngsters were clearly having the time of their life and the adults were equally enthusiastic.”
Following on from such great feedback, the team at The Hall are now in discussions for future in-house productions, which will be announced on their website –www.becclespublichall.com
