Bokel Home: Furniture with Heart, Heritage & Honesty

Sometimes the best brands are born not from a boardroom, but from a personal story. For Bokel, that story begins in a small, rural village in Germany called Bokel.

Founder Chloe, whose family grew up on a farm there, remembers the quiet beauty of the place: remote, cut off from the rush of modern life, and full of space to pause and breathe. It’s this feeling that Bokel Home seeks to capture, an antidote to overwhelming shopping experiences, with a focus on natural materials, timeless design, and conscious choices.

A Pandemic Beginning

Bokel’s journey started in 2020, during the height of the pandemic. Like many of us, Chloe found herself working from home, perched at two peeling MDF bedside tables repurposed as a makeshift desk. When searching for a proper replacement, the options felt uninspiring: overpriced or cheaply made. What she wanted was rustic, durable, and built to last.

The answer came in the form of solid mango wood furniture, handcrafted in India. Their first design—the Ellis 2 Drawer Writing Desk in Natural, struck a chord with others too, quickly becoming a lockdown bestseller. That very same desk still serves as Bokel’s HQ work spot today.

As more people began investing in their homes, demand grew for furniture that wasn’t just practical but personal. From desks to bedside tables, coffee tables to TV stands, Bokel has since expanded into a much-loved collection of timeless designs.

Honest, Conscious, Transparent

While Bokel Home doesn’t claim to be a “sustainable brand” (a word the company believes is often overused), they have built a transparent ethical tagging system. Each product is reviewed on its materials, packaging, and supplier ethics, giving customers a clear picture of where the brand excels and where it is still improving.

This transparency runs through the business: customer photos are proudly featured on the website, showcasing real homes rather than glossy studio shots. And the brand’s new custom design service allows customers to create pieces that feel timeless and personal, choosing everything from size and finish to drawer layouts.

Timeless Inspiration

The heart of Bokel’s design philosophy comes from older homes, especially the antiques passed down from Chloe’s Om. “Her furniture still feels stylish and full of character decades later,” Chloe explains. “That’s what I want for Bokel—pieces that can be repaired, cherished, and passed on, not sent to landfill.”

Each piece is handcrafted from responsibly sourced mango wood—repurposed from trees that have finished their commercial life producing fruit. Rather than being burned, the wood is given a second life as furniture, while new saplings are planted in its place. Known for its strength, durability, and beautiful grain, mango wood makes each design both practical and elegant. Brass hardware and natural fibres in seating add further longevity and character.

A Respectful Supply Chain

Every item is produced in India by skilled artisans using traditional techniques. All factories have undergone social audits and hold BSCI-compliant certification, ensuring fair working conditions and a zero-tolerance approach to child labour or mistreatment. For Bokel, worker welfare is as non-negotiable as product quality.

Looking Ahead

The brand is quietly growing. Alongside plans to expand its homeware range, Bokel is preparing to introduce new oak designs. The updated website is an ongoing labour of love, and the custom design service is already proving popular with customers seeking truly personal furniture.

At its core, Bokel is not about chasing trends or mass production. It’s about slowing down, shopping thoughtfully, and creating a home filled with furniture that feels like it has always belonged. Just as in the German village that inspired its name, Bokel invites us all to pause, breathe, and choose pieces made to last.
