The spirit of Thai mealtimes at Giggling Squid
By Rachel Ducker
Giggling Squid is all about plentiful dishes, exotic ingredients and bold flavours to be enjoyed with your favourite people.
We visited the Norwich restaurant at twixmas… with our two boys Leo and Indie.
Lunch or dinner you will find Thai favourites to suit your mood. Whilst adventurous menus feature ingredients found only in Thailand, expert Thai chefs also cook up classics such as Thai Green Curry, Pad Thai and their signature Salt & Pepper Squid alongside popular lunch Thai tapas sets and vegan menu, which suited me!

The boys absolutely loved arriving to a placemat they could colour in with crayons provided, ideal for giving us time to peruse the menus.

The Norwich venue is very beautiful set in and olde worlde building on Tombland in Norwich city centre. It was buzzing with Christmas shoppers, families and couples trying to escape the fuss of Christmas.

To start the boys had a children’s portion of spring rolls, which they devoured (so much so they made a start on the adult portion I ordered)! My husband enjoyed the turmeric-grilled squid sprinkled with crunchy fried Thai garlic cloves.

This was followed with two prawn kid’s portions of Pad Thai for the boys – a cashew nut stir-fry for me, brimming with delicious ingredients – roasted cashew nuts, mushrooms, peppers, onions and chilli. Whilst my husband enjoyed the sea bass cooked in banana leaf with the savoury, which was served with a stir fry of broccoli, sweetheart cabbage and Thai shallots.

All in all a fantastic lunchtime stop rounded off with two chocolate lollipops for the boys and a nice coffee for mum and dad.
