Vamoosh & Support Dogs’ six top tips for fireworks season
Fireworks safety tips for dogs: With Bonfire Night fast approaching, fireworks season can be an incredibly stressful time for dogs and their owners, with loud bangs, flashing lights and unfamiliar noises leaving many pets feeling frightened and anxious.
To help owners prepare, British household cleaning brand Vamoosh and national assistance dog charity Support Dogs have come together to share six practical tips on how to keep dogs calm, comfortable and safe throughout fireworks season.
Vamoosh & Support Dogs’ six top tips for fireworks season:
- Walk before dark: Take your dog for a walk before it gets dark and fireworks are likely to begin, helping them feel calmer and more relaxed for the evening.
- Close curtains and blinds: Block out flashing lights from fireworks to help reduce visual disturbances.
- Create some background noise: Play relaxing music or have the television on to help mask the sound of fireworks outside.
- Keep them occupied: Distract your dog with their favourite toys, puzzle feeders, Kongs or snuffle mats to help keep their attention away from the noise.
- Create a safe space: Make sure your dog has a quiet, comfortable place at home where they can relax or retreat if they feel frightened.
- Secure your home: Frightened dogs may try to run away, so ensure doors, windows and other potential escape routes are secure.

Vamoosh’s love for dogs has been at the heart of the brand since its beginnings, with its original Pet Hair Dissolver inspired by co-founder Tom Abbey’s black Labrador, Mr Chips. That passion continues today through its partnership with Support Dogs, with Vamoosh & Support Dogs recently celebrating a £27,000 fundraising milestone towards the training of sponsored Labrador puppy Mooshie, who is working towards becoming a fully qualified assistance dog.
Together, Vamoosh & Support Dogs are committed to raising awareness of canine wellbeing and helping dogs and their owners, making fireworks season another important opportunity to share practical advice with pet-loving households.
