Carlos Alcaraz: Ranking the Spaniard’s four Grand Slam wins so far

Carlos Alcaraz has rapidly emerged as one of the most promising talents in the world of tennis. Bursting onto the scene with his impressive victory at the Madrid Open in 2022, Alcaraz has since captivated the tennis world, with four career Grand Slams before his 22nd birthday.

Many believe he could be the next big thing in tennis, with the Spaniard’s most recent win at Wimbledon a resounding statement of intent. The big three which dominated the previous era are all approaching the twilight of their time on the court, with Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal set to make way for a new generation.

Indeed, Alcaraz could carry the baton for tennis’ elite, alongside the likes of Casper Ruud and Australian Open winner Jannik Sinner. If Alcaraz can win the US Open for the second time he would already be on five majors and stand in great stead to build a legacy on the court.

In this article, we look at all of the Spaniard’s career Grand Slams so far and assess what has made him such a force to be reckoned with.

US Open – 2022

Alcaraz announced himself on the global stage with his first Grand Slam victory at the US Open in 2022. He defeated Casper Ruud in the final to win his first Major, demonstrating maturity beyond his years with a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(1), 6-3 win, announcing his arrival on the world stage with authority.

A return to Flushing Meadows comes with great expectations this time around, with Carlos Alcaraz to win the us open odds at the highest they have ever been, coming in at 11/8.

Wimbledon – 2023

Alcaraz’s victory at Wimbledon in 2023 was a historic moment, showcasing his versatility and ability to adapt to different surfaces. Winning on the prestigious grass courts of the All England Club is a feat many players dream of, and Alcaraz achieved it by beating the best in the business.

Djokovic had won the last four Wimbledon titles, dominating Matteo Berrettini and Nick Kyrgios after the pandemic, but Alcaraz ensured the Serbian’s run came to an end. Despite an impressive start, the 36-year-old was unable to overcome an exuberant performance from Alcaraz, who bounced back to win 1-6 7-6 (8-6) 6-1 3-6 6-4 and cause something of an upset in the tennis betting.

French Open – 2024

The 2024 French Open was perhaps one of the most anticipated tournaments for Alcaraz, given his clay-court prowess. At times, he is redolent to compatriot Nadal for his ability to perform on clay, and that was no different at Roland Garros as he beat Alexander Zverev with a strong performance.

The German had navigated his way through Alex de Minaur and Ruud with relative ease, but the world number four was unable to overcome Alcaraz at Court Philippe-Chatrier. Alcaraz defeated Zverev in the final, 6–3, 2–6, 5–7, 6–1, 6–2 to make it a third career Major and build serious momentum ahead of a Wimbledon defence.

Wimbledon – 2024

Alcaraz retained his Wimbledon crown in a gripping rematch with Djokovic this year. Alcaraz won in three straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, 7-6, for his fourth Grand Slam title overall, capitalising on the Serbian’s injury sustained before the competition to secure a win.

“Credit to Carlos for playing elite tennis, especially from the back of the court. He had it all today,” Djokovic said post-match. “It obviously was not the result I wanted, but of course in the first couple of sets the level of tennis wasn’t up to par from my side. It wasn’t meant to be. I tried to extend the match, but he was an absolute deserved winner today so congratulations for him.”
