How to Make Your Skin Look Clearer and Healthier in the Morning

Do you want to wake up with healthy-looking skin? If you’re looking for ways to get that glow, here are some tips to help you update your routine.

Start with a clean slate

Good skin in the morning starts the night before. Your skin is exposed to lots of impurities dung the day. In fact, over 70% of Brits are concerned about how air pollution is affecting their skin. And if you wear makeup, this will also affect your skin’s natural balance.

Therefore, it’s important that you take the time to develop an evening skincare routine. One of the most important steps is cleansing before you do anything else, as this cleans your skin, removing oil and dirt that can clog pores and cause breakouts.

Skincare guru Caroline Hirons is a huge advocate of double cleansing. The first stage is to remove makeup, SPF (it’s recommended that we wear SPF50 daily, regardless of the season) or other buildup from the day and the second is to clean your face, neck and decolletage.

Exfoliate with care

Exfoliating a few times a week can make a difference in the appearance of your skin. Regular, gentle exfoliation removes dead skin cells and promotes radiance without causing irritation.

However, its important that you find the right exfoliating product for your skin type. Some of these include acids can irritate the skin or damage the skin’s barrier, so take the time to research the product that will work best for you.

For instance, exfoliators containing salicylic acid are designed to focus on removing buildup in the pores, while other acids target pigmentation.

The role of hydration

Hydration plays a crucial role in achieving smooth and plump skin. Moisturising is the final stage of your PM skincare routine and will lock in moisture overnight. You might want to apply a serum and mist before your moisturiser to boost hydration.

Look for products containing ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin. These can help reduce dryness.

Targeting specific skin concerns

Bedtime is also a great opportunity to target skin concerns like acne, redness, and puffiness. As well as using this time to exfoliate and remove impurities, you can apply pimple patches on spots. These patches are designed to work while you sleep.

You might have to adjust your routine from time to time in order to address your specific skincare needs, so be sure to adapt as you go along.

Get your beauty sleep

A well as having a great PM routine, there are other steps that can improve your skin’s health and appearance.

Drinking plenty of water is one that can help enhance your skin’s appearance. Also, getting a lot of rest can do wonders. Your skin repairs itself overnight, so if you’ve prepped with a great routine and get enough sleep, you’re giving it time to regenerate.

If you have these steps in place, you should soon see the benefits when you look in the mirror in the morning.
