Mauldons Brewery has recently doubled in size thanks to the creation of a large purpose-built cold store and Bottle Shop on the Chilton Estate in Sudbury. Mauldons, Suffolk’s oldest brewery, looks ahead to an exciting year creating their award-winning ales, whilst offering bespoke brewery tours and tasting sessions in their Bottle Shop.
In September, Mauldons Brewery’s Suffolk Pride took home Gold in the Best British Bitter at the SIBA East Independent Beer Awards. To win with a beer named after the county is incredibly special; we all know that Suffolk is rich in hospitality, history and heritage.
Brewery Tours and Bottle Shop
Going behind the scenes at a brewery is fascinating, especially one that uses the grain from their family farm to brew. The Brewery tours will be enjoyed in the heart of the brewing area with windows overseeing the whole brewing process.
Mauldons Brewery invite you to pop in and talk real ales with them. Locals are free to try a couple of their ales and pick up their beers for later in the new Bottle Shop.
The Story Behind it all
From the barley in the fields to the beer in Nedging Hall Estate’s pubs, Mauldons Brewery puts sustainability at the heart of what they do. The barley itself is grown on the family farm just a few miles away and the spent grains are then fed to Red Poll cattle, a Suffolk rare breed. The beef is subsequently used in the estate’s local country pubs. It’s a full circle, leaving the environment in a better state than they found it. Sustainability is at the forefront of Nedging Hall Estate’ thinking, a highlight of this being the produce that is grown for their kitchens at the Nedging Hall gardens.
Serving across the Estate
Nedging Hall Estate owns The Lindsey Rose, a charming 500 year old country pub, The Bildeston Crown, a historic coaching Inn, and real ale pub, The Brewery Tap in Sudbury. You’ll find Mauldons on tap or in bottles in every one of their pubs. Their core range is five traditional award-winning ales and they create successful seasonal brews throughout the year, including their Angel ruby ale coming this festive season.
Plans to grow
As a committed Suffolk brewer and retailer, and with the infrastructure in place, Mauldons looks set to grow and serve pubs across East Anglia and further afield. It’s an exciting time for them.
