A Feast for the Senses: Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival Celebrates the Best of Suffolk

From celebrity chef demonstrations and artisan food producers to live music and family entertainment, the Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival brought a delicious celebration of local flavour to Snape Maltings this September.

Suffolk’s buzzing food and drink scene was back in the spotlight when the Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival was held once more at the stunning Snape Maltings on 26-27 September 2026.

The much-loved annual celebration of all that is good about East Anglia’s food scene will see passionate producers, renowned chefs, food lovers and families descend on the region’s most exciting food destinations for a weekend of great food, great ideas and great fun.

Over 130 local food and drink producers, a fantastic line-up of cookery demonstrations, live entertainment and activities for all the family, the festival demonstrated precisely why Suffolk remains one of the most innovative and inspiring food destinations in the UK.

In Honor of Local Ingredients

Taking centre stage was its vibrant marketplace, hosting over 130 independent food and drink producers presenting the best the area has to offer.

Whether artisan cheeses, mini baked goods or craft spirits, locally made, organic ingredients and fresh from the farm offerings, there was something to tempt everyone’s taste buds.

Guests also had the opportunity to try mouth-watering dishes from a brilliant range of street food traders, offering up more than a little inspiration for the culinary adventurers in attendance.

It is also a significant showcase for local independent traders, introducing local producers to new markets and celebrating the county’s food heritage and variety.

Celebrity Chefs and Culinary Inspiration

The 2026 programme was also most notable for the wealth of talent it had assembled.

The festival’s Headliner Kitchen featured lively 40-minute cooking demos in which celebrity chefs prepared their signature dishes and offered helpful cooking tips.

The names included in the show were Wahaca founder Thomasina Miers, Italian food advocate Joe Hurd, celebrated chef Alasdair Gill, live-fire cooking expert Chops and leading chocolatier Paul A Young.

In the meantime, Skills on Stage took a more interactive approach. These 30-minute sessions shared ideas and the techniques behind great cooking, with some good onstage practice.

From those who came to learn something new, those who wanted to sharpen up their kitchen skills, those looking for a new recipe or those who simply love watching skilled chefs perform, there was enough inspiration for all.

Heat Things Up with Live-Fire Cooking

Of especially note for 2026 is the festival’s specially curated live-fire cooking experience.

From traditional pitmasters like Chops, led by David Wright aka the “Breaducator,” the programme assembled pitmasters who were experts at cooking over the fire.

Nestled in front of The Suffolk Restaurant and Rooms, overlooking the open grill and bar, the Aspall Cyder House will sit alongside a lively street-party feel, bringing stunning food together with a relaxed and festival environment.

Enjoy a Concert and the Festival Spirit

While the real draw card may have been the food, music was also a pivotal part of the boisterous festival environment.

Alongside the main event, the exclusive live music stage hosted a truly diverse range of artists, including jazz saxophonist Sam Braysher and soulful BBC Introducing star, i.am.afiya.

All weekend, our DJs played a range of soul and R&B, providing the perfect soundtrack for visitors to sit back, tuck into some tasty treats and enjoy the atmosphere.

A Fantastic Day Out for Families

When the Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival was founded it already had a long-standing history of being a great family day out and that tradition has continued ever since.

It was a day of food, entertainment and exploration for the whole family – free entry for under 16s made it a perfect day out for youngsters.

Children’s cookery classes may even be on offer, as well as the chance to meet the sheep from Naunton Farm. Children could also jump on a tractor-shaped castle and wander around the festival with a Festival Fun Book.

All of which added up to one great big ol’ feast. And it meant that there was just as much fun for the little kids as there was for the big kids.

Conversations That Matter

But it wasn’t just about the food and fun. The Symposium also gave the chance to dive into some of the big conversations that are defining the future of food.

Presented in the atmospheric Britten Studio, the programme comprised a panel of farmers, producers, chefs and industry experts in lively, in-depth discussion about the issues, ideas and innovations affecting how we grow, make and eat food.

Attendees could listen to talks from the likes of Olia Hercules, Bold Bean Co and Hugo Harrison that brought a new dimension to the weekend, which focused on sustainability, community and the future of the industry.
