How to create a Winter Wonderland

It’s no secret that it isn’t always a white Christmas in the UK. And the rainy winter weather doesn’t quite invoke that glorious Christmas scene many are hopeful for! However, it is still possible to create a beautiful winter wonderland that’ll get families and visitors into the Christmas spirit.

If you’re looking to turn your garden into a scene even Santa himself will be jealous of, keep reading for great tips on how to create your winter wonderland.

Pick a theme

Deciding a theme for your winter wonderland will help you narrow down which decorations you need to purchase, as well as help you come up with a colour scheme to stick to. Before you pick a theme, it’s worth considering the size of your garden.

If your outdoor space is small, a less complicated theme like Santa’s Grotto will be perfect. If you have a big garden, you could attempt something a little more grand like a Christmas tree forest, or Christmas in Hollywood.

Using what you have

Christmas can be expensive, and the last thing you need is the creation of your winter wonderland to break the bank! Instead, use decorations that you already have. For example, outdoor trees and shrubs make great stand-in Christmas trees, and indoor baubles can also be used outside.

You could also go scavenging for some pinecones in the forest, and decorate them with artificial mistletoe and berries!

Add lighting

Nothing says Christmas more than driving past houses that are illuminated with decorative lights. Lighting is an essential part of any winter wonderland, and it’s easy to make your Christmas scene shine bright like any star.

Ambient lighting can create a jolly festive mood, some light-up reindeer could help to set the scene, and fire pits or candles can add some extra warmth and a homely feel.

Create a grotto

If you’re considering using your winter wonderland to entertain, a grotto can give both parents and excited children somewhere to relax and eat all the mince pies. A shed or canopy is a great location to put a grotto, and having the overhead cover will help protect your guests from that pesky British winter weather…

The best part about a grotto? It doesn’t even need to be Santa-themed! Grottos will fit into any winter wonderland theme. However, if you are thinking about recreating Mr. Claus’ home, a grotto is a necessity.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve been naughty or nice this year, you can still create an unforgettable winter wonderland in your garden. By using decorations you already own, adding festive lighting, and setting up your very own grotto, you can create a glorious winter scene that even the biggest Scrooge will appreciate this Christmas.
